Louisiana

 Casey Denson Law works out of New Orleans but takes on cases across Louisiana, including reaching underserved areas where few employment lawyers practice in Northern and Western Louisiana.

We work on civil rights and employment cases throughout the state. This includes pursuing claims with administrative agencies and court including:

  • the New Orleans office of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission;

  • the New Orleans office of the U.S. Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division;

  • the New Orleans office of the National Labor Relations Board;

  • the Baton Rouge of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration; and

  • state courts, and federal courts in the Eastern, Middle and Western District of Mississippi.

Potential state law claims include:

  • discrimination based on religion, gender, race, color, age, national origin, disability, pregnancy, military status, genetic information or sexual orientation. Educational institutions, and public accommodations, are also prohibited from discriminating against individuals;

  • retaliation against employees for complaining about discrimination, applying for worker’s compensation, asking for accommodations or leave, engaging in speech protected by the First Amendment, and engaging in other protected activities;

  • unfair trade practices;

  • limiting unreasonable non-competes;

  • breach of contract;

  • failure to pay final wages; and

  • civil rights and employment claims under the Louisiana Constitution’s free speech, equal protection and due process clauses.

Louisiana law favors employers, and its important for employees to use knowledgeable counsel who are familiar with both state and federal law to protect their legal claims.
